Eight of the nine people tested so far in Forth Valley for swine flu have been given the all-clear. They are all close contacts of the Falkirk couple who tested positive and are among a group of 22 people who have been given anti-viral drugs. The test result of the other member of the group is still outstanding. However, as with the rest of Scotland, more tests on other individuals continue to be carried out.
NHS Forth Valley continues to monitor close contacts of Ian and Dawn Askham who had been on holiday in Mexico. They remain in isolation at Monklands Hospital in Lanarkshire. NHS Forth Valley Medical Director Gareth Davies said it was reassuring that their current condition is not causing concern:
"We are reassured that the Askhams have shown no more than mild flu symptoms and are recovering well. We are also looking out for any returning travellers who might need advice or monitoring."
"Symptoms of swine flu in humans are usually similar to regular human seasonal flu systems. Our advice to the public is to watch out for fever, respiratory systems such as cough or runny nose, sore throat, body aches, headache, chills, fatigue, vomiting or diarrhoea. If anyone shows these following symptoms they should contact NHS 24 immediately on 08454 24 24 24.
"We are working closely with our partner agencies within the region to provide a coordinated response to the current swine flu situation. The Central Scotland Strategic Co-ordinating Group has been activated so that the various partner bodies in the area - local authorities, police, fire, ambulance and other services - can present an effective response to this challenge."
