Smoking Cessation and brief advice training

Overview: 
The training on brief advice and smoking cessation is a full day training programme for anyone who wishes to help others to stop smoking within their own working environment.

Aim:
To increase the amount of smoking cessation support delivered in a range of settings by enabling the participant to provide brief opportunistic advice to those who smoke.

Objectives & key learning outcomes:

• Provision of client centred help to stop smoking

Participants will be able to:

• Provide support, information and literature relevant to smokers' stage of change
• Demonstrate listening skills
• Sign post the existing help available to smokers who want to quit
• Understand issues related to second hand smoke
• Provide of support for own workplace smoking policy

Maudsley 2-day Training

This course is the development of the traditional 'Maudsley Training'. It is run by some of the leading UK researchers and practitioners including Prof. Peter Hajek, Prof. Robert West, Gay Sutherland and Ronnie Troughton.

The course aims to equip participants with the necessary background information and skills for running their own state-of-the art treatment programmes and to feel comfortable that they have an up-to-date grasp of the field. The training focuses on treatment methods validated by research. It also covers aspects of the smoking cessation field useful for policy makers and public health practitioners.
