Sexual Health - Training in the Community

Sexual Health and Relationships Training in the Community

The Sexual Health Team offer training for staff working in the community.  This training enables workers to develop the skills and confidence to deliver effective sexual health and relationships education.

The training is open to staff working in various community settings and has previously been accessed by local authority community learning teams, voluntary sector and charity organisations.

Programmes can be tailored to meet the needs of individual organisations, and can focus on specific issues, for example working with young men, working with young women, addressing LGBT (Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender) issues with young people.

Below are examples of some key areas which would be covered in a programme:
  • Research evidence about effective sex education, statistics on sexual behaviour and the law and guidance on sex education.
  • The sexual health needs of young people and others, and how these needs might be met through the community learning environment.
  • Exploring participants' own knowledge, values and attitudes around sexuality, how these may affect the way they work.
  • Exploring difficult situation in sex education and explore and develop practical strategies for handling them.
