Promoting Healthy Living

Aim of training :

  • to increase awareness and confidence in delivering key nutritional and physical activity messages.
  • to raise awareness of the wide range of physical activity and healthy eating resources and literature available to support and encourage health promotion within the community.
  • to demonstrate practical, hands on activities that can be used with community groups.

Prospective Participants:

People working in health and health related occupations, education, the community and voluntary sectors who have the opportunity to promote healthy eating and physical activity within the community and wish to gain an understanding of the basic skills and knowledge.

Promoting Physical Activity at Work

Aim of training

  • to raise awareness of the benefits of promoting physical activity for employer and employees
  • to highlight the key physical activity recommendations
  • to highlight practical workplace interventions
  • to raise awareness of the key elements of the Healthy Working Lives physical activity criteria

Prospective Participants:

Any workplace within the Forth Valley area interested in promoting physical activity in their workplace.

 17 - 20 Apr Swimathon
The world's largest swimming fundraiser will be heading to a pool near you in March 2007. In 2006 over 20,000 swimmers of mixed ability dived into one of the 1500 Swimathon sessions being hosed by 500 pools across the UK. Funds raised go to Marie Curie Cancer Care

 27 Apr 2007 Balfron 10k
An open competition for runners of all abilities. The stunning views and undulating nature of many of the roads around Balfron will provide for an enjoyable run for beginners whilst still challenging the most experienced competitors.

11 - 25 May SWIM for LIFE: SWIM a MILE Challenge
A charity fundraising event where thousands of swimmers from across the UK take to the water and complete a mile, whether on their own or part of a team. Swimmers of all ages and abilities can take part.

May, Jun & Jul Race for Life
Race for Life is the UK's biggest women only fundraising event. Women of all ages and all levels of fitness take part in 5km runs across the country for Cancer Research UK.

13 Jun Big Fit Walk
This event aims to encourage as many people as possible to step out on the 13 June and take a 30 minute walk in their local area. Last year over 7000 people took part across Forth Valley. Why not take part and organise a walk at your workplace.

14 - 22 Jun Bike Week
Bike Week is the UK's annual 'celebration of cycling'. This year more than 2,000 local bike events and rides are expected. Most bike events are free to enter and suitable for new or occasional cyclists including families and children.

14 - 22 Jun Bike2Work
This is part of the national Bike Week, providing a great opportunity for employers to encourage more staff to cycle to work.

Great Scottish Walk
The Great Scottish Walk is a charity walk based in Edinburgh. There are two different route lengths (6 or 12 miles) and a Scotland Health at Work 1 mile walk.

A 10k route around the city, individual and team entries welcome. Children also welcomed to take part in the 2k Fun run.
