The
Health Information & Resources Service (HIRS) provides Department staff and other health promoters throughout the NHS Forth Valley area, with access to an extensive range of health promotion resources and other materials. HIRS also has in-house facilities for visiting clients to preview resources and access electronic sources of health information.

These 'How to' instruction sheets can be used with community groups, schools, youth clubs, play schemes and nurseries. They provide a step by step guide on how to run a pizza / fruit salad / fruit smoothie / fruit and vegetable workshop. They indicate things which you should consider prior to running a workshop, essential equipment required and an outline of the content of the workshop. Simple recipes are also included as separate sheets for participants to take away.

Healthy Eating Leaflets Set of 8 A5 leaflets can be used individually or as a set of 8. They support the Scottish Executive's key dietary targets - topics include general healthy eating, breakfast, water, fruit, vegetables, starchy carbohydrates, oily fish and salt. The leaflets contain general information on each of these topics, a few recipe ideas and useful nutrition websites are listed on each. These leaflets are intended for use with the general public and they could be used in a wide range of settings.

Eating for Health - Display Panels Set of 8 large posters for use on display boards illustrating the Scottish Executives key dietary targets. There is a poster on the following topics - general healthy eating, water, breakfast, fruit, vegetables, oily fish, salt and starchy carbohydrate. These posters could be on display in workplaces, community centres, health centres or used in schools at health fairs, parents evenings or exhibitions.

Snack Food Model Display This resource box contains a wide range of healthy and unhealthy snack food and drink models. Sugar and fat cubes have been used in this display to visually illustrate the amount of sugar and fat in everyday snack foods and drinks. The display highlights how you can swap and save calories, sugar and fat by making healthier snack choices. This display could be used in a wide range of settings and at various events.

Snacka'tivity
Snacka'tivity is a resource which comes in two distinct parts. There are snack guidelines and ten food preparation activities suitable for young children. The food preparation activities have been called Ten Tantalizing Treats for Tiny Tums.
The purpose of the Snack Guidelines is to provide managers, other staff working in early year establishments, with ideas on healthy food which are suitable at snack time as well as provide information on how to promote a positive eating experience within their setting.
The Ten Tantalizing Treats for Tiny Tums were developed to promote healthy eating by involving young children in food preparation activities. The food selected for the activities are 'healthy', with emphasis on low sugar for good oral health, in addition, care was taken over the amount of salty and fatty food included.

One More Step. Information and advice on developing a 'whole school' approach to food in schools
This toolkit was developed in collaboration by the Community Dietitians and Health Development Officers of NHS Forth Valley and with partners working in the three local council areas. It is designed for use within a Health Promoting School framework as a resource that will provide brief, easily accessible information, and advice on aspects of a "whole school" approach to Eating for Health. It highlights curricular links, web references and signposts to current national and local documents and will help to support your school in progressing nutritional issues.

How to run your own workplace weight management programme
This workplace weight management programme has been designed to support workplaces who wish to run a weight management course for their staff. It aims to give those facilitating the course, whether they have a healthcare background or not, the confidence to plan and deliver weight management sessions within their workplace.
The pack provides some basic nutritional information and includes an 8 week session planner, which offers the facilitators of the course a step by step outline for each week of the course.

British Dietetic Association - Food Fact sheets
The British Dietetic Association produce a range of over 30 Food Facts sheets. The A4 factsheets cover a range of dietary topics and they offer clear and concise facts on nutrition and health. They can be downloaded and printed for your own reference. They are for information only and are not a substitute for proper medical diagnosis or dietary advice given by a Registered Dietitian.

Clear Directions - a guide to running health events
The Clear directions website has been produced by NHS Health Scotland (previously, the Health Education Board for Scotland - HEBS) to offer information on how to create and manage successful health events, large or small.
Clear directions guides you through the planning process step-by-step; from deciding the aims and objectives of your health event right through to evaluating its success. Topics covered include how to raise money, produce and distribute a press release, co-ordinate the management team and organise insurance.
