Confidence to Learn
The education team can support staff in taking this highly respected programme forward within their establishments. The programme aims to extend health education and health promotion development in the school, in keeping with the philosophy of the health promoting school. It uses a child-centred approach and explains how research in the classroom enables teachers to look at what motivates a child to learn and achieve.

For further information, please contact the Education Team .

Ongoing Health Promoting Schools Awareness Raising Sessions  -  The Education team can offer awareness raising with other SMT and school staff. This allows whole school understanding and involvement in taking forward health promoting schools within an establishment. This can be done in various ways i.e. twilights/ in-service usually on a cluster basis. Please contact your Health Development Officer for more information.

For further information, please contact the Education Team .

Pathfinder  -
The Pathfinder Programme is aimed at those staff within schools who have a leadership and management responsibility for moving forward the Health Promoting Schools agenda within their establishment. This will usually be the headteacher or depute headteacher. Ideally, 3 members of staff from each establishment will attend, this allows for team planning and a co-ordinated / shared approach when returning to school.

The Pathfinder Programme is usually structured as follows:

  • 1 or 2 day training - consecutive days, day 2 writing an action plan
for Health Promoting School work in your establishment.

  • Support visits from Education Department or Children's Service and/or Health Promotion Department staff to support the implementation of your action plan.

  • Half or one day follow-up session to share progress on action plans, approximately 3 months after 1 or 2-day training.
For further information, please contact the Education Team .

Quality Circle Time  -

  • promote positive behaviour
  • create a caring and respectful school ethos
  • help children develop their self-esteem and self-confidence
  • provide efficient and effective systems and support for all staff
