Stirling Strategic Development

The Health Promotion Department works in partnership with Stirling Council Children's’ Services to ensure all schools are working towards Health Promoting Schools Accreditation. The multi-disciplinary Health Promoting Schools Steering Group directs this work. Many of the Stirling’s Children's Community Partnerships (CCPs) prioritise Health Promoting Schools within their action plans.

Examples of Good Practice

Feel, Think, Do

The summer term saw the next pilot phase of the sexual abuse prevention programme 'Are You Listening' renamed 'Feel Think Do'. All primary 6 and 7 pupils in the Lornshill and Balfron Clusters took part in this interactive theatre-in-education programme. To support the implementation of the programme, staff development for class teachers was provided to facilitate the delivery of the lesson plans for the programme. 'Feel Think Do' has been captured as a DVD resource to create a sustainable teaching tool for all primary schools in Stirling and Clackmannanshire in 2007- 2010.

'Feel Think Do' is a major partnership initiative, involving Stirling and Clackmannanshire councils, teaching staff, Open Secret and co-led by the Sexual Health team and INTER-ACT at the NHS Forth Valley Health Promotion. Funding for this programme has been received form Clackmannanshire and Stirling Councils, Health Scotland and NHS Forth Valley Health Promotion.

With the official launch of the programme at the end of January 2007, 'Feel Think Do' will be rolled out within all Stirling and Clackmannanshire schools from February 2007, followed by all Falkirk schools in August 2007.
