Shelcat (Scottish Health Libraries Catalogue) is a new online health information and resources catalogue that is now available to HIRS Users. Registered Users can use Shelcat to search the catalogue, then book audio-visual resources and order leaflets/posters held in the HIRS Library.* To use Shelcat, please go to ... www.shelcat.org/vl

* Please note that Users will still be able to use existing methods for placing audio-visual resources bookings and materials orders for HIRS items. This includes visiting the HIRS Library, where staff can personally assist your enquiries.

HIRS, plus the two NHS Forth Valley medical libraries at Falkirk & District Royal Infirmary and Stirling Royal Infirmary, are part of a consortium of 40+ NHS and partner libraries in Scotland, led by NHS Education for Scotland (NES).

Shelcat Developments and Progress
  • August 2008  -  As of 1st August, Shelcat is live, and registered Users may now access  Shelcat to search the catalogue, book audio-visual resources and order leaflets and posters.

  • July 2008  -  During July, existing HIRS Library Users who had re-registered since February, plus health promoters registering with us for the first time, were issued with their new Shelcat library card, login details and 'Quick-Start Shelcat Guide'.


Prospective HIRS Library Users in the Forth Valley area, wishing to access Shelcat are invited to register with us by completing the registration form below.
