HIRS provides Department staff and other health promoters throughout the NHS Forth Valley area, with access to an extensive range of health improvement resources and other information materials.

HIRS also has library facilities for previewing resources and accessing electronic sources of health information.

When can You Visit Us?

• The HIRS Library is open to visitors during the following hours:

Monday - Thursday     9.30 am - 4.00 pm
Friday                         9.30 am - 3.00 pm 

• HIRS Library Opening Times may be restricted during holiday periods or staff development days. On these occasions, an advisory notice will be placed on our webpages. Alternatively, please check with us before starting your journey. 

What's on Display in the Library?

In the Library we have various types of resources on display for browsing:

• Leaflet and poster samples - preview prior to placing your order
  
  
• Reference leaflets collection (PDF 28 pages - 184 kb) - additional materials for your interest
  This collection consists of a cabinet of leaflet titles for which we keep only very small amounts (i.e. not for ordering from HIRS). The idea being that we hold a reference copy for clients to peruse, plus supplier information for each item so that clients can contact the supplier directly for copies. If we happen to have extra copies (in addition to the reference copy) clients can take a few for their own use.
  
  
• PC for accessing our catalogue of resources and materials via Shelcat (Scottish Health Libraries Catalogue). Also, for online health information searches via our website
• TV + DVD/VCR player for previewing videos and DVDs
• Study area
• Reference journals

• Anatomical models - including our full-size skeleton

• Are you working with people across Forth Valley? If so you can access a range of FREE condoms.
  
• A wide range of clients currently access the service from Youth Workers, Voluntary Workers, School Nurses, Health Visitors, GP's, University Students Union Associations and many more.
