Health Services

Falkirk & District Royal Infirmary - Inpatient Services

Facilities in the hospital have been designed to the highest standards of patient care. We are continually seeking to improve and modernise our hospital facilities, in terms of modern technology, medical equipment and the fabric of our buildings.

Our aim is to make your stay as comfortable as possible and we try to be responsive to each patient's needs. Our highly skilled professional staff will care for you, and access to social work and other services can be readily provided, if necessary.

If you have any queries or concerns before your admission, the staff in the ward will be pleased to help.

When you arrive

Your ward will be marked on the hospital direction board, just past the ramp at the main hospital entrance in Westburn Avenue.

Things to bring

Please bring your own toiletries, nightdress or pyjamas, dressing gown, slippers and paper handkerchiefs.
If you have been prescribed any medicines, please bring them with you and give them to the nurse in charge on arrival. You should only bring with you enough money for everyday purchases such as newspapers. You are advised not to bring valuables with you, as the hospital cannot accept responsibility for any property not handed over for safekeeping.

Telephones

Mobile phones must not be used in the hospital as they can interfere with essential equipment.

A Trolley Phone can be brought to your bedside on request. There are public phones at the main entrance and Windsor Unit entrance.

Enquiries about your progress may be made by telephone. Staff will appreciate it if enquiries are restricted to your closest relatives.

Electrical Equipment

There is a television set in each ward area and a hospital radio at most beds. If you want to use your own electrical equipment, for example a portable TV, radio or cassette player, it must be safety checked by the Estates Department. Please ask the nurse in charge before you bring this type of equipment into hospital.

Shopping

A shop run by the WRVS is situated at the main entrance to the hospital in Westburn Avenue. A wide variety of goods including newspapers, greetings cards and toiletries are sold. The WRVS Tea Bar is situated next to the main waiting area in the outpatients department.

Smoking

NHS Forth Valley operate a strict NO SMOKING policy.

Translation Service

A translation service is available if you have special needs because of sight, mobility or hearing difficulty, or if English is not your first language. Please contact the nurse in charge of the ward before your admission.

Meals

Each day, you will receive a menu offering a selection of dishes at mealtimes, and a choice of beverages is served at various times during the day.
Our team of dieticians is on hand to make the necessary arrangements if you have any special dietary needs.

Mail

Mail is delivered to and collected from the wards each day. Please ask relatives and friends to include your full name and your ward when addressing letters to you.

Chaplaincy

Chaplains are available by contacting the Nurse in Charge, who can arrange for the Chaplain or Priest to visit should you so wish.

Moving & Handling

We will help you to remain as independent as possible by encouraging you to move by yourself whenever you can. If this is not possible because of your medical condition, we may use a variety of aids and techniques to help reduce the risk of injury to you and to staff.

Confidentiality

We will treat all information about your medical condition, and all other information that you give us, as confidential. If any employee fails in their duty to protect this confidentiality, we would judge it a most serious failure of their personal and professional behaviour.

Suggestions & Complaints

If you want to make a suggestion or complaint, please speak to the clinician in charge of your care or the nurse in charge of the ward, so that matters are dealt with as quickly and directly as possible. If you do not feel comfortable doing this, our Complaint Service staff can offer advice and support towards dealing with any concerns:
