Orthopaedic Surgery

Orthopaedic Surgery

Orthopaedics has many specialities which use a range of surgical techniques. These include  major joint replacement surgery, such as hip and knee replacements, which involve staying several days in hospital.  Other operations such as some hand surgery can be done as a day case.

Day Surgery

Minor surgery is usually done in  Day Surgery.  All day surgery now takes place at Falkirk District General Hospital.

Major Surgery

All major elective orthopaedic and trauma surgery now takes place in Stirling Royal Infirmary.  This includes operations such as hip and knee replacements

Rehabilitation Following Major Surgery

Following a major operation at Stirling Royal Infirmary, you may require to remain in hospital for a short time until you are ready to go home.  If this is the case you may be transferred to Falkirk District Royal Infirmary a few days after your operation for rehabilitation.
