Services

Acute surgical services are based at Stirling Royal Infirmary, where complex and emergency patients are admitted to a mixed speciality ward, and paediatric surgery is carried out from the children's ward. Planned care is carried out at the Falkirk Royal Infirmary, at the Ophthalmology Day Case Unit. Outpatient facilities are available on both sites. Referrals

Referrals to hospital eye services can be made by your GP or optometrist.  Once a referral is received, your consultant will review the information provided, and decide whether you need an urgent or a routine appointment. You will either be invited to ring to choose a time and place that suits you, or if an urgent consultation is required you will be sent an appropriate appointment.

As thorough examination of the eye often requires the use of eye drops which can affect your vision for a few hours afterwards, you should not drive to your outpatient appointment.
