Nutrition and Dietetics services in NHS Forth Valley are provided through the Primary Care/Community Care Service, as well as at Falkirk and Stirling Royal infirmaries.

Services
Primary Care Nutrition and Dietetics provides a range of services to the total population of Forth Valley both clinically and in terms of health promotion. Staff work closely with hospital staff, GPs, other members of the primary care team, local authority and the voluntary sector. Staff also liase with dietitians at the acute hospitals. The team specialise particularly in the field of continuing care, mental health, learning disability, primary care and health promotion. Services provided include:
- direct patient contact either in a clinic or at home
- (clinical) consultancy
- education and training
- health promotion
- evaluation and research

Services
The service provides Dietetic assessment, treatment and advice for nutritionally compromised patients or those who require a specific dietary regimen due to their medical treatment or condition, to all inpatients at FDRI. The same type of service is provided to adults and children as outpatients, day patients or ambulatory care at FDRI, and a monthly paediatric clinic is held at Denny Cross Medical Centre. In addition a service is provided to the Forth Valley area Renal, HIV, Maxillofacial and Frail Elderly Outreach Services (FalGO and CARE) and Falkirk and Stirling sites.
The department advises and provides formal and informal nutrition and dietetic education to medical, nursing and catering staff. It also provides a clinical placement programme for undergraduate Dietetic students.

Services
The department of nutrition and dietetics provides a wide range of clinical and advisory services to all wards, children's services, outpatients, local Community Health Partnerships and ambulatory care. In addition, we are a source of expert nutritional knowledge and advice for the public and other departments.
Staff work either independently or closely with other team members to treat patients who require nutritional support during their illness, or specific dietary advice due to their medical treatment or condition. Treatment and support can be given in a variety of formats and a range of settings throughout Stirling Royal.
Outpatient referrals to the department are allocated to the most appropriate Dietitian who specialises in either the condition or in children. The current out patient specialities include:
- Surgical Gastroenterology
- Medical Gastroenterology
- Diabetes
- Cardiology
- Older People
- Paediatrics - General
- Paediatric - Diabetes
- Paediatric - Respiratory
In order to ensure that all staff are aware of the importance and role of nutrition in the care we provide, the department participates in formal and informal training sessions with medical, nursing and support staff.
The department is also approved to provide 6 clinical placements annually for pre registration Dietetic students who may be involved in aspects of patient care.
