Services
The Forth Valley Multiple Sclerosis service offers a specialised neurological and rehabilitation service to people living in the Forth Valley area. The service currently operates from Stirling Royal and Falkirk Royal Infirmary with the Multiple Sclerosis office based in Falkirk.
The overall aim of the service is to help people who have been diagnosed with multiple sclerosis to achieve their fullest physical, psychological and social ability, enabling them to maintain their independence and have control over their own circumstances.
The philosophy of the service is focused on the needs of the individual with multiple sclerosis, with programmes of care and services being carefully tailored to meet the needs of each individual and their family. The service also acts as a resource to provide education and information for other professionals involved in caring for people with multiple sclerosis.
The activity of the multiple sclerosis service includes providing support and information for patients and their families, at the time of diagnosis and throughout the condition. Patients and carers can contact the service directly between hospital appointments if they wish to talk over issues relating to their multiple sclerosis, providing a link into neurology and rehabilitation services. Patients are offered advice in relation to symptom management, social and psychological problems and support and monitoring during disease modifying treatment.
We now have a fully functional neurology department at Falkirk Royal Infirmary, where clinics and staff are located in one area.
Services provided include:-
- multi-disciplinary clinics
- consultant led clinics for multiple sclerosis and disease modifying therapy
- nurse led disease modifying therapy clinics
- home visits
- referrals to other services
- provision of information
