A staff nurse who has looked after thousands of children across Forth Valley has retired after 43 years in the health service. With the exception of a two year stint at St Thomas's Hospital in London, Karen MacDonald has spent the whole of her working life in Falkirk and District Royal Infirmary and Stirling Royal Infirmary.

 Karen, who trained at Peel Hospital near Galashiels, is pictured at her retirement presentation with two of her old friends -Barney the ward mascot and stress-buster Seal!
