Stirling Royal InfirmaryNHS Forth Valley are continuing to look at their plans for community hospitals at Stirling and Falkirk to ensure that they can deliver services in the most efficient way.

This means looking to see whether any of the existing buildings on the two sites can be retained and refurbished as part of delivering the community hospital model.

NHS Forth Valley Chairman Ian Mullen said:

"We want to have the best possible community hospitals as part of our modern network of care across Forth Valley.

"In planning for these new community hospitals, we are looking afresh at what is possible on existing sites, taking into account the changing financial landscape. Factors we need to consider include new policy requirements on single rooms, as well as changes in the income we could expect from any land sales.

"While we had never made any final decisions, 'new-build' was one of several original options available to us. However, it is prudent for us to see whether we can refurbish any of the existing buildings, as some are relatively modern. We have asked planners to look again at what areas of our existing hospitals could be useful to us.

"What matters is that we deliver the new model of care as efficiently as possible and we do not anticipate an adverse impact on our plans for either staff or services."
