Biography

Mr Campbell Christie was appointed to Falkirk and District Royal Infirmary NHS Trust in 1994, and continued to serve on the Forth Valley Acute Hospitals NHS Trust when the two Hospitals were united under one Trust in 1999. He was appointed to Forth Valley NHS Board in February 2001, and was Vice Chairman for a short period before being appointed as Chairman of the Forth Valley NHS Board Acute Operating Division in 2004.

Mr Christie was a full-time Trade Union Official from 1972 until retiring in 1998. He was the Deputy General Secretary of the National Union of Civil and Public Servants from 1975 until becoming General Secretary of the Scottish Trades Union Congress (STUC) in 1985.

Since his retirement, he has held a number of Public Appointments including member of the Board of Scottish Enterprise from 1997 until 2004; member and then Vice Chairman of the British Waterways Board; Chairman of British Waterways Scotland during the period 1998 until present; and member of the Board of the Scottish Futures Forum from 2005 and continuing.

He has also been a Board member of a number of Public Companies, and is currently a member of the Board of South West Trains Ltd, and Chairman of Falkirk Football and Athletic Club Ltd.

He was awarded a CBE in the Birthday Honours List in June 1997, and has been awarded honorary Doctorates by the Universities of St Andrews, Stirling, Glasgow Caledonian, Napier, and Queen Margaret University College, Edinburgh.
