Employability is a specific issue in relation to the determinants of health which warrants further detail.
Employability is an issue which affects everyone, in the sense that work in all its forms is relevant to an individual's being, belonging and becoming. It is often integral to the individual's sense of identity and meaning. Most people value their ability to provide an input to society as a whole, which may be through paid employment, through volunteering or through caring.
These themes are explored further in these papers:
In Forth Valley we tend to divide the issue of employability up depending on context, and individual factors or circumstances.
The main parameter is age: pre-working age - working age - post-working age
For those of working age, there are 2 parameters which are of relevance:
- whether someone is in paid employment or not
- whether they are healthy or not.
