The ophthalmology department participates in training for all professional groups, and you may be examined by a trainee as part of your consultation.
Referrals to hospital eye services can be made by your GP or optometrist. Once a referral is received, your consultant will review the information provided, and decide whether you need an urgent or a routine appointment.
As thorough examination of the eye often requires the use of eye drops which can affect your vision for a few hours afterwards, you should not drive to your outpatient appointment.
