Nutrition and Dietetic Departments for NHS Forth Valley are located in 2 Care
Groups: Acute Care Group and Outpatient Care Group. The Community Dietetic Outpatient Services are based at two sites: Falkirk and Stirling Community Hospitals and provides a dietetic service to a range of patients in a variety of settings including outpatient clinics, community hospitals, care homes and in the patients own home. Home visits are provided on a limited
basis. Our team of dietitians work closely with our community food development workers and dietetic assistants who are also involved in supporting some patients who are referred for dietetic assessment and advice.
NHS Forth Valley community dietitians work in a variety of areas including diabetes, weight management, cardiovascular disease, food intolerance, mental health, learning disabilities, paediatrics, home enteral feeding and with nutritionally compromised patients.
The Dietetic Department also offers a health improvement (Public Health) service that helps facilitate positive changes in food choices amongst individuals, groups and communities across Forth Valley. Community dietitians and community food development workers offer support, advice and training to those promoting healthy eating within local communities.
resources, campaigns, training and contact details.Referrals to the Community Dietitians can be made by General Practitioners (GPs), Consultants, Dietitians, other Allied Health Professionals, Practice and Specialist Nurses, members of the Mental Health Team e.g. Community Psychiatric Nurse and members of the Learning Disabilities Team.
We do not accept direct self-referrals.
After the dietetic department receives your referral, depending on your condition and reason for referral we may ask you to 'opt in'. You will be contacted by letter and asked to contact the dietetic department in order to make a mutally convenient appointment or you may be offered an appointment at Forth Valley Royal Hospital or at the dietetic clinic nearest your home address or at the clinic most convenient to yourself e.g. near your workplace.
