About Us
Diversity Champions
The Equality & Diversity Champions initiative was developed by the Scottish Executive with the aim of having Equality & Diversity Champions at all levels of the organisation to promote equality and diversity, challenge negative behaviours, reinforce positive attitudes and address issues relating to Equality & Diversity as they arise.
The role of Equality and Diversity Champions is part of existing roles within the organisation and training is given to all Equality & Diversity Champions to ensure that they are equipped to take on the role.
The Equality & Diversity Champion Role:
- Raise awareness of Equality & Diversity.
- Raise awareness of relevant NHS Forth Valley policies.
- Encourage individuals to speak up regarding issues and concerns.
- Demonstrate positive behaviours to colleagues, patients and relatives.
- Constructively challenge those who speak or behave inappropriately.
Skills required for an Equality & Diversity Champion:
- Listening skills.
- Communication skills.
- The ability to be objective.
- Act in a professional manner at all times.
- Work within your code of professional conduct if applicable.
Knowledge to be gained by Equality & Diversity Champions:
- Understanding of relevant legislation.
- Understanding of relevant NHS Forth Valley policies.
- Understanding of your own limitations.
- Awareness of the support and guidance available to Champions.
